When you take a lunch break do you remain sat at your desk eating a sandwich while you continue to work? A recent survey of 2000 workers showed that nearly half of them rarely left the office during their lunch hour but remained at their desks checking their emails while eating.

Sending out a newsletter to your contacts database is a great way to keep in touch with clients and prospects. You don’t need to send a lengthy message, just enough to keep customers up to date with company news, improve brand awareness and build a relationship with your core audience. It takes a bit of time to create a good newsletter, but it’s a valuable marketing tool. Design your newsletter as if it were a newspaper and ensure that the content is useful to your readers. You want clear lines and divisions between your content and a simple layout with basic fonts. Keep to just a few colour schemes too.
‘The probability of selling to an existing customer is 60 – 70%. The probability of selling to a new prospect is 5-20%’ – Marketing Metrics.
There is a lot of information on the internet about how to increase your Twitter profile and you could spend days trying to work out what you should do and what you should not do. I think the best thing is to try different types of Tweets and more importantly, go with what you are most comfortable with and don’t try too hard. You can monitor which of your Tweets receive the best response by setting up your Twitter account so that you are notified whenever someone retweets you, favourites a Tweet or replies to a Tweet. You will soon find out what works for your followers.
It is surprising how many business people I meet who are not using social media to promote their business. Some people are not convinced that social media works and others say that they cannot be bothered. If you are one of these, I think it is a good idea just to dip your toe into the ‘Social Media Puddle’ by setting up a personal Facebook Page and Twitter Account. See what others are posting and tweeting about and join in when you find something which interests you. Once you have got the ‘Social Media Bug’ set up a Facebook Page and Twitter Account for your business.
I am the same as most people and find it difficult to admit that I need assistance with something. It is partly to do with pride but also because I am a bit of a control freak and have set ideas on how things should be done. As an example, a peek inside my clothes cupboard will reveal that my tee shirts are stacked according to colour and style, i.e. in the white pile, the short sleeved are on the top, ¾ length sleeves next and then long sleeved … yes I know!
