Who says Twitter will not work for your business?
24/06/2016

Here are 6 common Twitter Myths:

1.   You need a huge following for Twitter to work.

Don’t worry if you do not have thousands of followers. The important thing is that the followers you do have are genuinely interested in what you have to say.

2.   140 characters is not enough.

You can say a lot with just 140 characters but it is better to keep your number below 100 as this will encourage retweets. P.S. The great news is that Twitter recently made changes to its 140 character count and images and @name replies no longer count towards your 140 characters.

3.   No-one is paying any attention.

As a business owner, you will want to get more exposure for your business and Twitter is a great way to do this. If you check your Twitter Analytics you will see how many people saw your tweets.  It is great when someone engages with your tweet but this will not happen all of the time. You can also use a social media management platform such as Hootsuite to schedule your tweets so that you engage with your followers at optimum times.

4.   Hashtags are a waste of time.

Hashtags are a way of drawing attention to a tweet if you are talking about a new product or a brand you like. You can use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in your Tweet. Clicking on a hash tagged word in any message will show you all other Tweets marked with that keyword.

5.   There is no point in using images on Twitter.

Twitter says that tweets which include an image have a much better response than those without. If your business is visual, i.e. food, fashion, travel etc. then uploading an image to your tweet is a great way to get your message across.

6.    My customers do not use Twitter.

Some of your customers may not be on Twitter but everyone from 18 years old to 65 years plus is on social media these days. There are approximately 320 million people on Twitter and a lot of these could be potential customers!  Twitter is also a great way to help people by answering questions and engaging with discussions.

So there you have it, some Twitter myths busted. Twitter is a great way in which to showcase your brand, build a reputation and get people to trust and like you, so give it a try and you may find that it is good for your business and also that you enjoy tweeting!
